Well, now my fingers are working again and I got my DAW-case clean from all the blood. I didn't know it could be so dangerous to build
PC's
But now I've finally built it. ( I'm just getting the soundcard tomorrow)
So tomorrow it's time to turn on the power-switch. I just have a few questions about the BIOS-setup:
Why do I have to disable LAN ? In what way will that effect the performance of my DAW?
Do I need to upgrede BIOS ?(P4B533-V)
Anything else I should think about?
Just one more question:
I have two HD's (OS and audio), where should I put the wav's for my software-sampler? Could I make a partition just for those files? If so, on which drive should I make the partition?
I'd be very grateful for some answers on these questions.

Bloody hell mate! lol :p
BIOS setup...disable serial ports..change Parellel port to EPP..Disable Plug and Play OS..make sure power config mode is set to APCI(it is by default but better take a look anyways), disable boot up logo screen, disable floppy boot up seek, you can keep the onboard Lan if you need to connect to the internet for updates and so forth...as long as you minimize what you use the internet for you can use it on the audio machine.
It's always recommended to update the BIOS as it may help with certain features or boot up issues.
As far as samples go...load them on to the OS drive...also turn off the write caching for that drive as well..this way the samples will load a hell of a lot quicker...Don't partition the drives...it doesn't gain you anything.

Thanks a lot OPUS! That was all I really needed to know for the moment.

About LAN, I thought like this...I'll use my other computer mainly for internet and other stuff... but sometimes you want to download things for your DAW like BIOS and other upgrades. When it comes to downloading freeplug-insI thought I'd do it on my old PC and check them out with my Anti-virus-program, and if they're OK then I'll transfer the files to my DAW.
Finally I have some "music-software," on my old PC that only run under Win98, so transfering files between them with LAN would make my life easier... I'd rather do that than having a Dual-boot system on my DAW.

Anyhow, I got my soundcard today (RME Hammerfall LE)... so now I'm going to pick a good PCI slot for it. When I read the Mobo manual I see that some PCI-slots has "shared" IRQ assignments. Should I avoid to put the soundcard in those slots?
Well, I'll do that... correct me if I'm wrong.

Just once again, thanks for being here OPUS. :c:
