When I try to use the M-Audio ASIO driver I get Massive Crackle on playback. I can use any of the buffer settings, even the one >2000 and I still get the same crackle. The only difference is when I go down to 64 then it really gets bad. But anything above 128 is the same. If I use the "ASIO Multimedia Driver" provided in Cubase I only get a small amount of crackle and it sounds different. Of course, no crackle is good. I have three delta 1010's and they all do the same thing. I can run one or all three or any combination of them and it still does it. I have read and reread everything I could find on the M-Audio website and watched the little animations (although they use an older version of Cubase which has settings I don’t have in SX3). I have changed the motherboard, hard drives and power supply. Did a fresh Windows XP install. I have tried all the XP tweaks to optimize performance, tried using a utility to adjust PCI latency. Removed everything except the video card (including removal of Ethernet card), shut down antivirus. I don't know what else to do. Help!

If you could give me all the settings you use in the M-Audio control panel I would appreciate it. Screen shots would be absolutely awesome.
Any other settings in Cubase you might think pertinent would also be appreciated.

P.S. I had Nuendo on this machine before I went on my own. When I did I could not afford Nuendo so I bought Cubase thinking it was the same audio engine. I have had problems ever since.

I'm running:
Dual AMD Athlon MP 2800+ processors
I've used an ASUS and a Gigabyte main board
2GB registered ram
I've used several different hard drives 7200rpm IDE and always use separate drive for audio files
I've used three different power supplies including a 680w thermaltake and a 700w thermaltake
Matrox dual head video card (G450 I think)
Win XP Pro SP2

first things... like reg suggests get the 1010 drivers... with few exceptions your gonna always be better off with the drivers for your specific interface... next... forgive me if i'm off base here but i have to ask... is the software a crack???? considering you previously had the thing working... and youve done some tweaks... it's not unusual to get these types of problems with that sort of thing....

Man, been through the old Delta Snap, Crackle, Pop thing myself. I didn't use Cubase, I used Sonar.

I had downloaded the wrong driver. Installed the right one and the 1010's worked fine.................. Somebody on another forum told me what driver to use.

The 1010's worked great for me after getting the right driver. I had to run WDM driver, couldn't use the ASIO , but that was back in 98SE day's, and useing two Delta 1010's.

I would do what Reggie told you to do........

Another thing. Have you updated your Cubase? Do you have hyperthreading enabled? If so, disable it. Cubase no like hyperthreading. There was an update for Cubase which fixed a bug that caused crackling on one side only. This was for an older Cubase but it was release quite late so it may still effect sx3.

Edit: It was the Delta drivers that had the bug fix and not Cubase. I still think it's a good Idea to update Cubase though.

Well....here's a little further info on the hyperthreading issue from Steinberg:

Problem: We have found that many plug-ins and other applications do have severe problems when more than two CPUs (virtual or not) are used. Though Nuendo and Cubase are capable of dealing with more than two processors, the plug-ins and instruments loaded into the host may not.

Solution: If you are running a Xeon HT multi-CPU system or a Pentium Extreme Edition dual-core system including Hyper-Threading, you should disable HT in the BIOS. If you are running a single Pentium 4 CPU system, enabling Hyper-Threading results in an increase of processing power.

BTW, do AMD's even do hyperthreading? :?

No Cracks here dude. Stupid thing cost almost $600 and won't work. Even before I reloaded windows I got all the lates updates. I got the latest M-Audio Drivers and got the two Cubase updates available for my version. Still won't work. I rechecked about 5 times to make sure I have the correct driver.

NEWS FLASH:
While I was looking over the M-Audio site yesterday for the 57th time looking to see if I missed anything, I noticed that they have a version of Pro-Tools for M-Audio now. So I download the trial version and test it out and SHAZAM no pops, clicks or other funky noises. Nothing. Crystal clear. It uses the M-Audio driver without a hitch but Cubase has this funky computerized Static/Clicking sound. So I have an aquantance that has Nuendo. So we install it on my machine, and it works perfectly with the M-Audio driver. So it's got to be in the Cubase software. But is it a setting I have wrong or is it the Software?

I've got three different posts going on Cubase.net (the official Cubase forum) and two posts going on Cubase.com with no luck so far. Just grasping at straws at this point.

I have removed all plugins and still get the funky computerized clicking/crackling sound when I try to use the ASIO Delta Driver.

I don't use Cubase anymore (I jumped ship when then released SX) but I do have a pair of delta 1010 cards which I use with Tracktion.

The latest version of the drivers does not work properly: while I don't get the crackles you describe, the ASIO buffer size selection is broken and the only solution I have found is to use an earlier version instead.

Version 5.10.00.0048a was stable for years and only lacks pro-tools support; I suggest you try installing that one, see if it makes any difference.
