I think this is the most "newbiest" question I have every asked.
What microphone cable should I use with the Shure SM57? I'm getting confused with these female and male XLR cables, etc. etc. I'm like lost D: And if you need to know what my audio interface is here it is:

One can find esoteric and expensive microphone cabling. Really cheap cabling should be avoided. Average microphone cable by Belden, Mogami and others are perfectly great. The brand " Monster" cabling some folks like. I don't use the stuff. I use average cabling. The more shielding a cable has, the better. The more copper, the better. Some folks purchase what is called " star quad" cabling. These are redundant wires which when connected properly help to reduce noise in the cable. This is where you will find 4 wires with a shield as opposed to 2 wires with a shield. A foil shield is not as good a cable as a real braided shield. Foil shields are used extensively in larger microphone snakes. But for single cables, not as good as a good braided wire shield.

You're making it harder than it needs to be, you just need a standard mic cable. It will have a female XLR connector on one end (that plugs into your SM57) and a male XLR connector on the other end (that plugs into your Lambda's mic jack). Any other combination in a mic cable would be very rare and custom-made or custom-order. All you need to do is pick a length that suits your needs.
Just remember, you get what you pay for. Cheapo cables are usually more trouble than the 'savings' would be worth. After you pay to replace it several times, you'll wish you spent the extra $10-$15 bucks the first time and had a cable you could rely on for years.
Good luck.
