Hi mckaymental. Sure, a lot of us use analog consoles with digital recorders. Then you can mix in analog, or, you can do some preprocessing in the computer before mixing in analog. The hitch in the get along is the type of audio interface you are using with your computer? Those of us that work in a hybrid manner, like myself, may frequently use a dedicated multi-track, 24 track digital recorder that can accept 24 simultaneous inputs & 24 simultaneous outputs. Not everybody needs 24 inputs simultaneously. Many folks purchase an 8 input/output computer audio interface. For many tracking applications, that's perfectly adequate. But, when it comes to analog mix downs, mixing 8 outputs isn't necessarily totally adequate. In that respect, you'll create numerous partial mixes in single grouped outputs, within your software and a couple of stereo pairs, that would feed your analog console. Computer audio interfaces can record while playing back, so mixing to a stereo pair of inputs, while mixing 8 outputs should be doable. But if you know mixing like I know mixing, you'll like mixing 24 channels on your analog console. But hey, plenty of fabulous recordings have been mixed from 8 track recorders. And they can be pretty darned intricate & complicated since those 8 tracks are frequently composites/bounces of numerous other tracks. Working with digital just offers a different kind of workflow than working purely in analog. You have the best of both worlds. Go for it.
