AT4033 compared to ADK Hamburg/Vienna
Just curious how they compare?
After some research, 4033 seems to be the 57 of condenser mics.
while were at it can we discuss the sp b1 compared to the 4033 and the adks mentioned.

I have a 4033 and like it a LOT. It's in my mic locker as a specialty mic for whenever I need an LD mic for unusual circumstances; extra vocals, instrument mics, etc. It's a little different than the 4040, but in the same ballpark as all of the AT 4000 series of mics.
I wouldn't say it's overly bright, but certainly crisp and detailed. But that's why I like it, I guess.

I probably should clarify my statement. I own a number of AT's and have liked them ALL, to one degree or another. I just felt that the 4033 was a bit too much on the top end, at least to my tastes. And the Vienna doesn't really have that "rise" to the same degree. I would say that the detail is there, but so is a bit more (and I hate this non-tech term)..."warmth".
Anyway, I record a couple of smokey jazz singers, as well as blues', some rock and big band (male and female). The 4047 and the Vienna work better on them, and because a nicer mic, like a Neumann U87, is outta my price range, that's what I'll use.
Now, what Stix will be recording will ultimately determine that choice, no?

For What it's worth
For what it's worth, I'm just a smoe recording in my living room, but I have an ADK Hamburg, which I bought on the recommandations and feed back I got on this forum and I really really like it on my vocals. But I'd be interested in your comments if you get to A/B'ing the Hamburg and Vienna, I really like my Hamburg but wonder about the Vienna as I've never really tried one... So hope you'll post your comments if you get to A/B'ing them.

I just got a "like new" PAIR of at4033 on ebay for $392 and thats including shipping. A single new 4033 typically streets for $399.
Chalk a win in for the stick man!
I love you ebay.
If i dont like em i'll list seperately on ebay. There's no way i can lose money reselling them.

'Atsa a good buy... Personally, I love my 4033. Yes it is very very close to a deserted island mic.....the only problem being phantom power on the island.....
I also am a great fan of the ADK mic line in general. Well built, well voiced, and the company trys to get you what you need and fixes what aint right. Besides, the mics sound great. I like the Hamberg a bit over the Vienna, but I like dark detailed mics. But would use either for much the same sources.
I have a U87 that I use on anything and everything, but still like the 4033 on backing vocals as an alternative voicing. I also like the 4033 on acoustic instruments, as a drum overhead and as a room mic. It sounds really good crushed with a compressor.
Is it better than the ADK's? Different.
My next mic purchase will be a 4050. And then I'm going for a holy grail thingy.......(come on lottery numbers!!!)

I had a 4033. I have a Vienna. I got rid of the 4033 because it was too "harsh" and bright for my tastes, but a lot of people like it. I find the Vienna to be MUCH more versatile with different vocals and instruments (though I mainly use it for vocals, and some room apps), and it is a great deal smoother in the top end than the 4033. But I guess it depends on the material you are doing. I also have a pair of AT4047's, and they are pretty darned good on whatever I throw at them. Something else you might want to look at, IMHO.
