I doubt its as much a drum machine as it is a sample in anyone of the hundreds of libraries available. My MPC Renaissance has snares like this, sounds a bit de-tuned some reverb.
Sounds like its a mix of a TR 808 clap with a snare on top.

I had heard the layered clap and I think you're right on that being an 808. Its just the snare I'm interested in. I could keep using samples of snares that sound like it, but I'd rather know where exactly that snare's specific origin is, if it has one.

You will most likely get 10 answers from 10 programmers all suggesting a different snare.

Being said, Its sounds like a detuned common snare with a clap.
If you like it that much, simply sample it. That is the beauty of samplers. :)

In this track it sounds like a sidestick "detuned" with the ride cymbal on top of it. Its definitely a layer of a few things together. Buy an 808 and you will be really happy.
I used to own one, they are really easy to work with. They are the big craze now.

I have a good number of 808 samples and I'll get an 808 drum machine soon. But I dont think its an 808 snare

I'm just using samples for now, I'll buy gear soon though.

I have it...I even tried converting to Mp3 to upload here but the quality once converted sounds like ass (as Kurt so eloquently puts it.)

I think it has to do with the fact it is a one-shot sample and so much audio quality is lost from the original wav file when the conversion to Mp3 takes place.

But just so the OP is aware, I have what sounds like that particular snare, both dry and with reverb to taste as heard above.

What source or library was it on?

I have some 808 samples that are run through a Fairchild 670.

I hear certain snares and hi-hats in rap music that don't sound like 808's, they had to come from somewhere.
Maybe they are altered 808s, if they are I'm trying to figure the process behind it

There's a lot of sample packs out there that I can find some of the sounds in, but knowing where they originally came from enables me to get them fresh and ensures the highest quality
