Hey guys,

I am about to purchase the Waves Gold Bundle, but I only have 25gigs of hard drive space on my recording computer-- its a 256gig SSD and my NI Komplete 8 is hogging all the space. I just realized that upgrades from Komplete 8 to Komplete 8 Ultimate are 50% off right now. So here is my question; If I upgrade to Komplete 8 Ultimate, do I have to install the bundle on my internal hard drive? Or can it be installed on the external hard drive that it comes on in the box? If I can avoid installing it on my internal hard drive that would free up much needed space on my internal storage.

Komplete can't be installed on the provided hard drive. It is for the storage, and installation, of the software only. Warning, it takes a while to install everything.

Ideally, you want separate hard drives for different applications, or your system is going to be running very inefficiently, and will not be able to handle the resource heavy programs within Komplete Ultimate 8. You will be in for tons if crashes & headaches.

You will need one drive to run applications, one for sound library, and one to store the project files (including the wav data) of whatever sequencing/recording software you are using. Think 2 additional hard drives that run at 7600 rpm and at least a TB for each one. They are cheap enough these days. You already have an SSD drive so that would be ideal for running your applications. You will have to re-configure your set up.

Cheers,
Alfie

I couldn't disagree more. Komplete only costs 15% of what all the individual plugins cost. So as long as you are using at least 15% of Komplete, (I use about 60-70%) you are saving money. It sounds like you prefer to waste money away slowly instead of biting the bullet at the beginning and saving in the long run.

Komplete is a good package and if you record clients, it gives you a lot of versatility.

You cannot run it from the provided HDD, it could be installed on a internal or external HDD. Know that it is preferable to use an internal or eSata external drive because loading samples from usb or firewire might become annoyingly slow (specially on projects containing many Vst instruments)

I've always thought of it like the 128 pack of crayola crayons. Sure there's a bunch of colors, but your kid could have colored any picture w/ the 8 pack lol.
