I must have left my hand truck at a recording gig recently. It seems to be gone, and I miss it.

It was one of these:

that I picked up at Office Depot.
I really like this style, as I haul my gear in a mid-sized wagon and don't have much extra space to stow things. I was not, however, very impressed with the SENCO design. It claims to be rated for 275 LBS ... yeah, right! 100 LBS made that thing scream in pain.

My first one was a similar design that I picked up on eBAY for $50. It had a steel frame and flexed less, but the fold-out wheels were not too sturdy and got ugly after about a year.

I'm not really interested in a 4-wheeled cart as I have to nogotiate curbs and stairs fairly often - although more than a few stairs and I carry stuff rather than bump-bump-bump up.

Any hot tips? I don't really want to spend more than $100 - the lesser the better, of course. Worst case, I get a real hand truck and strap it to the roof rack.

This one isn't as compact as what you had, but it's light and study...and the handle can flip up and convert the thing into a cart. I use mine all the time for all sorts of things.

Home Depot has a similar one made by a company named Milwaukee and it's only 60 bucks or so. Actually, there is one of those on the northerntool site as well. Just search for Hand Truck

Try this site:

I use the "Rock 'n Roller" R2 model collapsible - $110. Carries a big load fine with stacking and collapses down to nothing for storage and transport. Works great for me....there are lots of other choices on this site.

Good luck,

I don't know if they still stock them in the stores them but LOWE's has the same thing for about $40.00. I bought one and it is great. Here is the information on it.

Hope this helps.....

I use a QuikLok stand which is awesome. It's kinda like the Rock n Roller (I think the RnRs are a little bigger/heavier/sturdier).

I used to roll it into the back of my Prius with a couple of rack cases on it and some mic stands underneath it and it worked great. Now that I have a pickup truck, it slides right in the back with no issues.

I think it set me back a cool $150. Can't live without it now!

I like the looks of that Rock-n-Roller - regular hand truck with stair climbers and a BIG platform - and the option to pile it high and haul a LOT when stairs aren't involved.

Not as compact as the other, but pretty versatile. I might go that route.

Thanks for the ideas - glad I posted the question.
