i've been waiting to get my hands on a matched pair of SDCs for a while, but haven't been able to get anything yet due to my inability to choose a set and/or a budget. i think i've pretty much narrowed my pricerange down and i've gotten 2 sets of mics that i've looked at: se electronics se1a and RODE nt5. has anyone used these sets before that can offer some advice on what i should pick up? I know a bunch of people are raving fans of the NT5s but when i recorded my ep with my band, the producer there was testing out the se1as on toms and they sounded pretty damn good; he had those, but no nt5s. i'm planing on using them as overheads for drums, and anything else that they might seem useful for (acoustic guitars, paino, etc.) Right now, i'm plugging everything straight through a firepod, but i do have an ART MPA Pro that i haven't hooked up yet. I don't know if that helps at all, but i figured i'd throught it out just in case.

there's an $80 difference between the two, and the se1a's bring an extra crossbar with them. i know that in this world that's not a lot of money, but for a broke college kid, it's enough to bite nails over. i just wanna make sure that i'm making the best choice, and since you guys know more than i do...

thanks for the comments and suggestions in advance. i really appreciate it.

I own a pair of NT-5's, and have tried a pair of the SE's in a live situation as OH's. I found the SE's to be harsher on metallic sounds. IMHO, I'd save up for the Rodes. They sound pretty amazing in their price range, very similar to the ORIGINAL AKG C452EB's I used to have. Shop around, find a deal. Good luck!
