Hi everyone, I'm brice and am new to this forum.

I would like to record at the most needed 8 mics/tracks at once for drums and/or live bands. I want to eventually use all seperate mic preamps and don't want to use mixer pres. My question is what can I use for a mixer that has 8 line/ mic inputs that can go stereo into my firebox interface (using the stereo line inputs in the back)? I would like to get the best quality solution for under $1000.

My gear for this setup so far is...
Apple G5 Imac 1 gig ram 1.6 processor
PreSonus Firebox (using garageband and Cubase le)
Marshall 990 Mic
Shure SM58 (mics will be expanding in the future)
MoreMe Studio headphones

Now, I'm new at this stuff but from what I understand you want to mixdown the drums to stereo (2 tracks) and then run into your interface?

As far as I know, you would want to use a mixer for that. I don't think you can get an 8 channel mic preamp that will do pan, eq, levels, and mix down to left and right all in one box. Maybe you can, I dunno. Anyone?

Mackie Onyx 1620 -> $779 if you go somewhere and work them (ie Guitar Center) you can get it down to like 6 hundo.

8 mic pres, stereo out. eq. perfect for what you are asking to do.

p.s. why did u get the firebox btw? just curious. i keep seeing these things and they are the same price as the mbox. not sure why someone would choose it over the mbox.
