I have been using the STC-8 H for a year and there was times I felt like selling it until today. Wow, is this thing right on!
To John Script, I followed your settings on the slutz thread and get it now!
For the last year, I thought it didn't work that well because I wasn't using it aggressively. I've never been one to over use compression but the settings on this are so gentle, its hard to kill it once you understand that. Most of my work is never spiky either, so its not like I need to control stuff that is out of hand. And thats where this thing is a monster. I see what everyone loves about it now. Silky smooth.
How does my song sound? Thanks for listening.
PS, I'd like to get this a bit louder now. Is it just a matter of snipping (limiting) a bit more off the top?

On the STC-8, the side-chain has an insert loop, so assuming the filter is wired on to a 15-pin D connector, the effect of it will be a high-pass on the side-chain loop for the compressor only (not the limiter). It will reduce the compression of low frequencies, with the starting point depending on the component values in the filter. Effectively the high-pass filter is your inserted device with the main signal as the source (insert send).

Yes, although a first-order roll-off is very gradual. At 150 Hz, the response is 3dB less than at (say) 2KHz, and at 75 Hz it's only 6dB down. So you would observe compression on most things, but the low end of a kick drum would not see as much. Personally, I would have thought that could give problems at the mastering stage, but maybe that's where the limiter section comes in.

Thanks Bos, I get it now. I wasn't hearing those subtitles and I know why now.
What a revelation this week. I have been using one of my EQ's in the wrong order. Following some recommendation , I had my BAX before the STC-8 and it just became one of those things I didn't move. Thought it was the last problem I would have. Now I know why I had battles fighting a mushy mix. I put it after the STC-8 and its night and day. Punchy and right. Its a good week! What an awesome EQ and comp.

What does that HPF do. Just roll off the bass or not compress those freq? I can't hear a difference when I plug it in.
