Software or Hardware Compressor?

I have been using the STC-8 H for a year and there was times I felt like selling it until today. Wow, is this thing right on!
Okay, something has to be wrong with my STC-8. It has no headroom which leaves me to believe the jumpers are wrong inside the box. The guy I bought it from said he did the jumpers for the softer KI knee and more input headroom for mastering but this thing is clipping way before it should. Its a year old and looks mint but yikes, it cannot be this lame. Could be why he didn't like it.
Hi All,
I had a request by a friend who I will be recording that we record his vocals with a hardware compressor in line before the signal gets sent to the DAW. I'm not exactly sure what the advantage of doing this would be other than his monitor mix would have compression?
Please stop me here if I should just slap on compression in the DAW during tracking.
Hi i am running pro tools 003. i am having problems connecting hardware to use whilst mixing down tracks ie compressor! i have managed to get a signal to the compressor but i am not to sure how get it back and the best way to utilize it
Thanks
James
I record my Midi performances on my Yamaha Motif ES into a Sweetwater Creation Station DAW. I record with Sonar using an Edirol FA-66 soundcard (audio interface), and running Receptor with the Komplete libraries (which utilize Kontakt as a plugin soft synth within Sonar).
Hi Folks,
Just got my fist piece of hardware a FMR RNC compressor.
I use Adobe Audition 1.5 and have M-Audio 1010LT sound card.
I have started to get my head around the sound cards routeing options.
This might be a stupid question but I was wondering how u use your hardwarecompressor? I dont mean how to operate it, but how u hook it up.
I understand how to hook it up when I`m tracking (Mic - Micpre - Compressor - MOTU - Cubase... Right?)
I was using the Reason 3.0 Mastering suite last night and I must tell you guys that it is amazing! I don't know if you really need a hardware compressor. I know Reason can't do audio but you can always export a file from a program like Cubase as an audio file and then load it into the Reason sampler and then use the compressor (or M-class mastering suite).
I am fairly new to the whole home studio 'thing' but as a musician I have spent plenty of time in Studios. My questions are about compression. I currently have a number of compressor plug in's (UAD-1, Waves, Wave Arts and Focusrite D2/D3) which in many cases attempt to imitate a hardware counterpart. Unfortunately, I do not have the hardware versions handy to make the necessary comparisons.
