Here's my dilemma...
I run a home based studio and I currently have access to two AT 4040 mic's. They're decent mics that work well for a lot of the stereo pairing that I use them for. However, they aren't mine (they belong to a drummer friend) and could be picked up and gone at anytime. So I'd be left without any large diaphragm mic's if they were gone.
ALSO, I don't have a great vocal mic. So over the weekend I picked up a Blue Bluebird that sounds fantastic. But I'm thinking I should take it back and get two RODE NT1's for the same price, incase I lose access to the AT 4040's. I'd be able to use the RODE 's as a vocal mic, and they sound alright, but they're pretty much in the same realm as the AT 4040's as a vocal mic.
What do you think I should do?

While the Bluebird is decent it is nothing to brag about. The NT1 isn't either. I'd skip both and get something that is at least useful such as the AT4047 or AT4050 or AT4060. I own one of each along with some very good mic's and these suckers get used all the time and damn near every time I have a session.
