I picked up a ccouple of Milabs VM-44s on a hunch (for a price I couldn't refuse). I've heard of them, but never met anyone who's used them. They're small diaphragm interchangable capsule condensers. I have the cardiods.
Anyone play with them?

They're my new favorite OH mic, as well as extremely workable on acoustic guitar. Compared to my MC012s, they're smoother on the top end, making cymbals (especially cheap ones) sound a lot less grating to my ears, without losing any detail. They remind me some of KM84s in that regard, but I didn't pay nearly that much :D
On acoustic guitar, I think they'll be gems. I tried out a single acoustic yesterday (Seagull S-6, nice guitar. Minimal finish so it has a very rich sound). It was easy to get the normal pointed-at-the-top-of-the-guitar sound by pointing the mic in the general direction of the instrument form just about anywhere, but with a little care in placement I got a wonderfully balanced sound out of a single mic. I added an MXL V67b a few feet away to capture a little bit of the room sound and add some LD character, but it's probably going to get dropped in the final mix.
The short answer: I love 'em. My MC012s have been relegated to rental status and gee-I-need-a-SD-condenser-and-I'm-all-out-of-awesome-ones moments ;)
Now if I could only find someone who stocks the omni capsules in the US....

We have a Mi-Lab (not sure which model) Sounds great on acoustic
We have a Mi-Lab (not sure which model) Sounds great on acoustic guitar, for sure, but has too much midrange on vocals for my taste. I actually have grown fond of an Audio Technica for vocals(Black condensor..model ?..lol)(and this is with Nueman's(sp)lying around)
So, How are they, Dave? I love the DC-96b, but haven't used any
