I understand that higher sampling rates and bit depth are important when doing DSP on digital audio. I also understand that 16/44.1 is pretty much bottom of the pile in terms of quality these days.

I have a Roland VS-1680 workstation. I recently recorded a concert onto this with the highest quality level. I plan on dumping the raw tracks via SPDIF through an MBOX into Pro Tools LE, two at at a time.

So what I'll have is 8 tracks of 16/44.1 audio. There will need to be EQ, compression, Reverb and possibly some chorus applied to several tracks before mixdown and mastering.

Would there be any benefit to upsampling this to 16/96 or even 16/192 prior to doing the effects processing. To me this makes sense because the effects would have more data to work with, and therefore generate less distortion while processing.

Am I off base here?

Thanks,
