Since I'm a Harrison MixBus (DAW) user, I got this link in an email from Harrison the other day: http://www.harrison…"]Harrison Lineage[/]="http://www.harrison…"]Harrison Lineage[/]. It's an 8-channel microphone preamplifier with 4 pairs of preamps. Apparently each preamp set has a distinct sound from different eras of Harrison consoles. These days most Harrison consoles seem to great big boards used for motion picture soundtracks.
Could preamp this have any legitimacy in the pro arena or is this just a gimmick? Looks like it's running about $3,000.
Any thoughts about this unit from the Pros?

Remember that Bruce Swedien recorded & mixed Michael Jackson's Thriller on a Harrison 32 C. Media Sound, NYC, had one of those when I was there in 1979. It definitely sounded nice even though the automation seemed rather bizarre, which I never quite understood. It was all too comprehensive, in an all incomprehensible way. Thankfully, preamps unlike consoles are simple to comprehend.
I never mixed on one however...

Harrison made great sounding mixers. the only thing wrong with them was the fet matrix switching when it gets old, most people I know who like them replace the fets with relays !
so the answer is yes they are worth using !! I have done over 40 Albums on Harrisons & I have owned 2 a 3624 & a MR3, Warm sound ,well worth a look !!

I've never mixed on a Harrison console, so I don't have any basis for making a guess at how good this unit is. But I don't think it's a gimmick. It's going to be competing with the True Precision 8 and the Focusrite ISA828 and some others. These have "legitimacy in the pro arena." More "working pro" than "boutique." If you end up getting four good but slightly different flavors of pre at $350 per channel, then that will distinguish the Harrison in a positive way.
