I'm looking to upgrade preamps in my home studio and am weighing the pros and cons of the DVC vs the Great River( NV version ).I have never used either pre and this will be my first purchase of a high quality pre.What I'm most interested in is peoples experieneces using both with respect to loud,blues rock style guitar.Primarily the Langevin.For those of you you have direct experince using either or both of these pres with rock and roll style guitar,and vocals,I'd really apreciate your comments and input.

Two high quality great but very different sounding units. The DVC has a compressor and 2-band eq which makes it an overall more flexable tool and even harder to fairly compare directly. For Rock or anything else, you can't go wrong with either one.

Well first off, there really is NO mic pre that can be used to record all sources equally well. They all have points of strength and weakness. Sencond, the player, guitar, amp, mic choice and how the mic is used, make much more of a difference in the overall sound than the mic pre assuming your using a high quality mic pre. While many may prefer a different and/or more colored mic pre than the DVC, I would not hesitate to use one. It certainly is not going to make a bad recording assuming you have a good sounding source to record.

i have both. the dvc is good for things that don't need to be large sounding. the great river is much better for things that need to sound big and full. the compressor on the dvc is ok but not great. it's only good for evening things out you can't really mess with stuff wiht it. the eq only does very high and very low
