for pure audio i would suggest protools...

Unfortunately, I want to start getting in to midi. I'm pretty interested in DP because of there pitch correction and it appears to be pretty good on edits.

Come on guys....tell me the nuts and bolts of DP and Logic....I don't want PT because I currently like my I/O and don't want track count limits.

I've looked at both, and it seems that mostly they're the same, DP is a little more midi oriented, and Logic is a tad more audio, but that's more because of their roots being in those respective areas, than because of any real functional differences. Both are great programs. As far as I could tell, the only major difference was that with Logic you're also getting a MASSIVE plug-in suite. To outfit DP with a similar arsenal of plugins, you'd end up spending the same amount of money, but you'd get to pick and choose your plugins. The Logic plugins are top shelf though, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any faults in either program, and it would end up just being personal preference in the end. DP may be more viable simply because you wouldn't have to spend all that money up front, and you could add the plugins as time and money allow.

I'm STILL only using dp3 and will be upgrading to OSX And dp4 soon. It all looks good for DP4 and is a step up from Cubase which I used back with ATari's and later on with PC. As the guy above said ...plug ins are scarce but you get to choose where you spend your money. I found the learning curve hard but I'm not so technically bright 8-) to DP FROM ME.

For many years I have used Performer (not Digital Performer, mind you). Performer was just MIDI, and boy was it good at that. Editing MIDI was taken to the degree of an art with Performer. Today I am using AudioDesk, also by MOTU. This is roughly DP4 without MIDI capabilities an some other fancy stuff. It was included, free of charge, with my order of their 828mkII audio interface. As far as audio goes, this software is anything other than what one might expect from a "free" software. The same high quality editing features that MOTU used in their Performer for MIDI, are in use with AudioDesk. You can set your time rulers to show samples (rather than real time, frames or measures) and make edits by the frame.

As others have already written, Logic comes with a stack of plugins and (if I am not mistaken) somebody mentioned virtual instruments as part of Logic . . . Again I am not sure.
DP4 comes with its own plugins, but I cannot testify to quality of either of them.

Didn't someone once said that Logic was harder to initially learn and get started with than DP4 ?

logic is expensive yes, but it is by far the strongest app for midi, extremely powerfull for audio too. comes with a bucket load of high quality plugs, and softsynths, including sampler (a very, very powerfull one!!) a drummashine modul, etc., etc. has a in my opinion, the best GUI of any apps i have ever worked with or seen, has full and very easy automation, control surface support, and full integration with other apple pro apps like final cut pro...

enough said. it is learn intensive, and will take you a while to get your head around, but not because it's cluttered, because it is so unbelivable powerfull, the logics "enviroment" function can be a lifetime issue if you really get into the in-depst of it's power...

in my opinion worth every single penny and all you ever need, really.

just my opinion on the most beautifull and shurely powerfull audio apps around.
