Hi all, I am new to this forum and would like to start right away with a beginner's question.

I am currently changing my studio from pc based systems to mac based, mainly because I am moving from SADiE to Pro Tools because of demand in compatibility to video projects.
But actually my main work is classical music production, and somehow I already miss my SADiE workflow. Anyway, now I am looking for a software for my (limited) mastering requirements which mainly is some level tuning and extensive and straightforward PQ editing.
What is the software of choice for this? I just tried Bias Peak but I am not actually very happy, had some stability issues on my g4 ibook and my dual g4 workstation. Also the workflow is a littlebit strange for me.

I would like to have something like the Audiomontage in Wavelab 5.0 or something sadie-esque.

Other alternative would be to go cross-platform for these issues, but actually I'd be happy to keep it to one platform.

Thanks for your input and greetings from Vienna

Georg

Dont get rid of sadie. I love sadie when it is on a computer that works well. If you do, then get bootcamp and get wavelab to run with PT, What is your outboard gear look like, my problem with wavelab is even with wave plug ins it is not great, may just be because the acomputer I use to master on was crap. If you are done with sadie, sell it and take the money get Apogee converters and maybe some GML, La-2a, etc. Wavelab is decent a decent program. I have really never found a program that on mac that I like for mastering, I dont do to much of it anymore, but when I did it quite a bit is seemed like PC was ahead on that game, but I may be wrong.

The only genuine Mac platform mastering app. I know of is Bias Peak and Bias Peak Pro XT or whatever.

It is well liked and respected by most people who use it.

One of the reasons why many Mac users keep a PC lying around is because of programs like Wavelab and Soundforge, you'd think there would be morw of a market for Mac platform, but check out Bias's offerings and research thoroughly before making an investment.

Huh? Not exactly... http://www.sonicstudio.com/ As Michael said- Sonic is probably one of the better mac-based choices.

I used Peak for about a week and ditched it after having multiple CDs burned with massive errors in PQ coding (CD showing too many tracks and wrong time on CD player) and then not even playing what was supposed to be there. I don't even consider Peak to be good enough for prosumer work.

Sonic PMCD is a great way to reliably burn CDs. Soundblade is a great first step for Sonic to get back making premiere DAWs. (and I saw that as a Sequoia user) What I saw at AES working with the new Metric Halo interfaces was pretty good.

Hmmm, I've burned many, many discs through Peak XT with no problems. Maybe you're having hardware compatibility issues?

To each his own, but I find Peak to be a great app without breaking the bank on the likes of Sequoia or another multi-thousand-dollar equivilant. The control over selecting certain sections of the wave isn't all I'd hoped for, but I've used it to master plenty of tracks with great results, especially in combination with the Waves Platinum bundle.
