OK, here's what i got for bass/guitar signals on this recording:

each guitar/bass track gets:

-a Direct line

-a 57 A the speaker of an amp

-a condensor a few feet from the amp.

(not concerning the drums or vocals, each song of this album is strictly 2 guitars and 1 bass)

I AM SATISFIED WITH WHAT I'M "TRACKING," WHAT I NEED TO FIGURE OUT IS WHERE MY BETTER BET IS "Mixing."

My one idea (probably that of many others):

was to create a bus for the DI's, one for the 57's and one for the condensers; get a mix or all three instruments in each of these types of signal, compress (yes together), and basically bring them into the main mix as whole mixes of DI, 57, and condensor. this would (in my theory) equalize the "relm" of all these instruments and make them "fit" with one another better. i also take mute one of the signals of each guitar unti that particular one needs to step up a notch into the mix (guitar solo time). but the bass is all three signals throughout. and once again, all just a guess.

My other idea (i know has been done):

to bus simply all the signals of one INSTRUMENT to one a bus, and bring them into the mix by the intrument one at a time.

i get a real "in your face" sound when i use the 1st method,, but method 2 is a little more traditional,,,

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS OR PAST SIMILAR EXPERIENCES YOU COULD SHARE ON THESE TECHNIQUES?
