I am a soldier in Iraq and I am trying to set myself up to do some recording. I have a P4 3.2 ghz,800FSB,1gb ram laptop on the way to me. I also have an M Audio USB MIDI interface, M Audio Mobile PRE-USB and a MXL MXL 990 Cardioid Condenser Mic on the way to me.
I am planning to connect my Johnson J-Station to this setup. I have a Steinbereger guitar I plug into the J-Station.

I have been looking at software but I'm not sure where to start. I have been really looking into Cakewalk's Guitar Tracks Pro 3.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks

the best and easiest recording software to use for me is Sound Blaster Recorder. I don't know if you can use this with your sound card you have, however you can give it a try. It comes free with Sound Blaster Live 5.1 (the card costs approx. $20-$40 CAD). All you do is set the record volume and hit record button and it will record anything you want through your sound card. It's that easy! After you record the mix/tracks/CD you have to master it and there are many softwares to do this. Below are some good softwares to use. Take a look. Most programs cost a bit, however you can download them free online any torrent site.

Wav Lab
dBpowerAMP
Adobe Auditions
AutomixMP3
Fruity Loops (know called FL Studio)
Nero Burner or Roxio
Creative Recorder
Sony Sound Forge
Steinburg Cubase
Meda MP3 Splitter
Magix Music Maker

and some others I can't recall at the moment...

I hope that answers your question.
