I feel so stupid for asking this.
What is the "pin" configuration for TRS cables. I'm putting a few TRS cables together, and I obviously know that the sleeve is the big hunk of metal that the cable sits in, but I think I have the tip and ring confused. Is the copper part in the center the tip or is that the ring?

Not sure which part of the connector you're talking about, but it sounds like the back side, i.e. the part where you make the connections when soldering. Yes, the smallest part in the center, the most difficult to solder (at least for me), is the tip. It should be apparent that it's isolated from contact with the others by what looks like a ceramic ring around the solder point. The largest, easiest part to solder is the sleeve. The other is the ring.
Tip = Hot
Ring = Cold
Sleeve = Ground
Hard to explain verbally vs. visually....

You nailed it....the hardest part to solder (just above the sleeve). That is the tip....alright....I'm good to go on this.
