I have not used it on kick as it is such a kick ass good mic pre that I have not bothered to waste using it on just the kick drum. Being it is one of the most raved about and best mic pre's that money can buy right now, it is safe to assume it would do a great job on any source or application.

And just to keep straight, it is called VIPre not viper. Variable Impeadance Preamp.
