Hi, I have PreSonus Firepod 8 channel interface plugged into 2 KRK rokit 5 monitors. Every time I turn the volume knob on the interface, my left monitor crackles and stop sounding until I play with the knob long enough so that it's at the perfect spot where I can get clear sound out of it, but it's only temporary until the sound disappears from that monitor again.

I have tried my KRK monitors with other audio interfaces and they work fine, so the problem is in the interface, not the monitors.

How can I fix this?

Thanks.

It could just be a dirty volume control. You probably need to clean and lubricate it using something like [[url=http://[/URL]="http://store.caig.c…"]DeoxIT® Fader F-Series[/]="http://store.caig.c…"]DeoxIT® Fader F-Series[/] which you spray into the control and it cleans and lubricates it. You could also have problems with the soldering of the potentiometer to the circuit card where one or more solder connection are not well done and will have to be reheated or reflowed. You could also have a defective volume control which has a broken track which means you would have to replace it. If you don't have the technical chops to repair or clean it yourself you will probably have to send it back to the manufacture or find someone locally that can do the work for you. Hope this helps...

Best of luck!

I have found the PreSonus line of equipment to be very well built. So this is an extremely dirty potentiometer and/or, it's broke? Opening up the box and squirting junk into the control is just a Band-Aid. You can be pretty much guaranteed that it will do it again and again and again until you replace that control. What it really needs is an ultrasonic cleaning and that's not really tenable for you. In fact it's downright impractical about 70% of the time. So the spray cleaning Band-Aid is the most logical to try and shoot it up with.

It's a real bummer to have dirty intermittent potentiometers
