Xtreem..... I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with it. I have the 1220 with firewire, using it daily with my Sony VAIO studio computer, and it's wonderful, no problems at all.

Not knowing your specific setup, I wouldn't know what's causing your problems, aside from the usual guess of IRQ's, conflicts, etc. (You may first start off by swapping your FW interface card to another slot in the computer, but that's just a wild guess...)

Most importanly, I'd spend a quiet morning or afternoon reading all the posts over on the Mackie ONYX forum; there are now quite a lot of posts over there (including one guy who just put a very detailed description of how he fixed HIS problem with using WINXP Service Pack2 with the ONYX FW card...) You may find a solution over there, as well.

It's rarely the card itself, moreover, the way the card interracts with your computer. Even something as simple as powering it up LAST (after your computer boots, etc.) can make sure it runs right, and avoid problems. I have to remember, for example, to turn my 1220 OFF when I'm rebooting, wait for it to come up, then power the 1220 back on once I'm up and running in WINXP. Otherwise, bad things can happen.......

Good luck, and make sure you stop in to the Mackie ONYX forum. Their techs read and post there as well, someone SHOULD be able to help you, no doubt.

I own a Mackie 1620 with the firewire card. I had the exact same problem your having right now. I tweaked my computer for optimal audio recording settings (you can find that in other onxy posts on this forum) and it only happens once in a blue moon, and never when recording. It only happens when im using it to play music from winamp and im doing a ton of other processor heavy things.

There is life on the other side of those beeps, its a great board.

Turns out (amazing) that it was my video card!! I was going through an onboard video card. How I found out:
*I opened a session where I knew if I did something it would come on. Then I noticed that when I drag a menu where the noise occurs off the screen and go through different menues, it didn't do it. So then my guess was that the video memory buffer was conflicting and the CPU couldn't handle both things. So I installed an old laying around 32mb GeForce AGP card I had from years ago. Went away!!!

I LOVE it when stuff like that happens. (ain't it cool? :twisted: )

I've seen a lot of bashing about the FW card over on the Mackie site, and 99% of the time, it's system errors or pilot error, or an incompatible chip on the FW interface on the computer.

I had a mysterious "click" or "Pfffft" sound, every three minutes to the second, getting printed to all of my tracks when first using the ONYX card. Turns out it was the BATTERY CHARGING system in my Vaio laptop that was causing the problem. The noise was there with the ONYX, but NOT with my MOTU 896. After days and days of trying to find it (disabling more stuff than you can even imagine), I finally had a brainstorm and removed the battery out of the thing. BAM! Problem solved.

Not sure who's to blame on that.....bad design by Sony or Mackie, or both?

Glad you found it.....you may want to post your success on the Mackie website, I'm sure they'd be glad to hear about it, and pass it on to others who may have the same problem.
