Ok I hope I'm not asking a stupid question but when Mackie claims that the SRM powered monitors are of "studio" quality are they kidding? Could those speakers actually be used to do basic tracking, and mixing? Cause at the same price as the Mackie studio monitors it sure would be sweet if one could use them for both stage and studio.

Seriously, the Mackies are some of the flatter speakers in that category, but I can't imagine anyone using them as monitors for mixing. (Playback in a big tracking room makes sense though.)

That's what I bought mine for. They work real well for my mobile rig for playback. I do mostly live recordings, work tapes for people.
But I wouldn't mix with them. I would get the HR824, they are about the same price and will be alot better than the SRM's for mixing. I use the 824's , I think there very good budget monitors. In there price range, I don't think you can get any better, JMHO

I agree with the other posts. I think Mackie was trying to make a point that the SRM series is cleaner sounding than other PA cabinets (and they are in my experience), but I wouldn't mix a project on them.
