I've been doing sampling for a looong time now and I've been hunting and hunting for a good sampled rock piano and all of my searches thus far have ended up empty-handed. Even the Double Platinum Rock Piano by Ilio doesn't even come close. Everything just seems too "pristine and perfect", as if they mic'ed the pianos for a PERFECT piano sound instead of preparing it for a mix.

The sound I'm searching for is like "Great Balls of Fire" or anything off a Nashville country music record. Hasn't anyone ever taken a real piano used in a standard recording session and sampled it or something? I don't want a perfect piano... I'm looking for something that has that Nashville sound. Anyone?

Howdy

That's a real good point. I've found sampled pianos that work nicely for solo. I've also found pianos that work in "classical", jazz, R&B, etc...but I'm always hard pressed to find something for rock 'n' roll.

Sometimes, this is where you want a ROMpler. The reason being, they put so much attack and high end on these thing that they really cut through. Its even better if you can start with an "OK" piano sound and add something like a CP70 in underneath it. Alternatively, just try the CP70.

Of course, this is just a work around to get something cutting through. We've had a RO mixing project, a mastering project is ongoing, maybe we need a RO rock 'n' roll piano sampling project! OOOO FUN!

Oy... I've used about a dozen ROMplers and the pianos just get even more sterile. =oP A good sample I've heard actually is Peter Siedlaczeck's Total Piano, where he has recorded a thumb tack piano. But it's not quite there.

That sounds AWESOME to do a RO rock'n'roll piano sampling project!!! I only wish I had the piano to contribute. =) If I did, I wouldn't be posting here, tho.
