I wanted to record the pod via S/PDIF thru the audiophile and when I changed the input to S/PDIF I got a loud hiss(air), I know this card has been out for awhile so I guess the question is am I doing something wrong or is it time to move to a new soundcard?
I still want to use the analog in's of the card, I just want to record the pod's unprocessed guitar thru S/PDIF.

If the Soundcard's WC reference is "Internal", how will the Soundcard lock to the POD's External SPDIF signal?
I would think you need the card set to "SPDIF", and then the POD's WC is feeding the SoundCard (and the Soundcard's A/D converter for the analog input).
Make sure the Sample Rate is not locked on the Soundcard control panel - this may be part of your problem (causing no lock). The 24/96 should be 4x4 capable.

The soundcard's PLL must sync to the POD's internal clock or you may have pops in the SPDIF channels of your recording. The analog ins will record fine with either clock source selected. If you leave your POD on, you will also be able to play back from the POD's clock, so long as you use the same sampling rate that the POD uses or else you will have a new and possibly entertaining playback speed.

Did you have your pod plugged in and powered up first? I do quick mixes through the outputs of a DAT into the spdif in on the 2496 and then into a Wave Editor. When the DAT is powered up, there's no hiss from my monitors, but if I forget to go back into the settings for the card and switch the input back, when I power up next, it's all hiss all the time.
