Daisychain is really quite a misnomer when dealing with digital. The only thing that would be daisychained is the timing synchronization signal between the two.

There will be no signal degradation in these respects since you are not daisy chaining the audio circuits per se. You are not running a microphone preamp into another microphone preamp etc.. But you may have to have 2 FireWire inputs on your computer? Maybe not? Follow the directions. Either way, they want you to time them together. I'm just not sure why you need 16 inputs for a drum set?? I rarely use more than eight. Besides, most of your sound comes from the overheads, not all the other microphones. Why not learn how to make things sound good with 8 microphones before you try 16? And what kind of microphones were you thinking about? The ones that we use & know sound good? Or, what's on sale? From technical specifications you read? Then you'll never get the sound that you're looking for. You want a bag full of SM57's. A couple of condenser microphones for overheads. You don't need a purpose built bass drum microphone. I get wonderful results with a 57.

You might even consider just 4 microphones on the drum kit? LESS IS MORE. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. Are techniques I live by. So should you.

Daisy-chain the FireWire connections. The signals here are digital and cannot affect the audio quality.

The only problem you could encounter is that your computer will not be able to handle the load of the extra channels, and you might get clicks, pops and dropout in the audio. But that's easily fixed by upgrading to a new expensive computer.

well my drummer just bought a seven piece set, so that's seven right there. then two overheads, hi hat, bottom snare, and ride make 12, then i want to experiment with having multiple bass drum mics somewhere down the line. and no, you don't need two firewire inputs on the computer, there are two firewire ports on each fp-10.
