Does the DAW software have any effect on the sound of the recording? This may sound really dumb, but I've just always wondered if Cubase, for example, gives any different sound then Samplitude, or any other DAW's. Thanks for answering!

Although the test hasn't been performed to this point (as far as I know) I can't see how the software could impart a sonic signature to your tracks while recording. Assuming the same computer and soundcard you are merely streaming digital data to the hard drive at this point. The software is only there to facilitate the transfer in the format it uses and to keep track of the locations of the data.
Mixing however could (I said could) be a whole different ballgame. The algorithm's used to mix the tracks to stereo and those used for effects and dynamics (assuming the same plugins) could assume a different sound quality under different DAW software.
Does one sound better than another, I really don't know but it's a good question. Perhaps we can arrange some sort of shootout as was suggested in the other thread. If there is enough interest in this sort of comparision we'll find a way to do it.
