I have been searching the net for like a week...and I have seen my problem posted by many others...but no-one can figure it out..maybe you can?
Problem: When I try to record. it simply fades-in. I am using Sonar .though it fades-in on my other program as well. I have tried fixing it though Sonar by pushing "x". My sound card is a Ac97 C-media wave device. Yes I know its a cheap card...but keep in mind it JUST started doing this and I have been using this card for like 2 years. Also when I turn the mic volume op so I can hear it through my speakers while playing...it DOES NOT fade-in...its normal...but the volume meters on Sonar indicate a fade-in...and when I record I can SEE the fade-in and then hear it on playback. It does it with the mic...and my guitars. any ideas?

forum803, if it is doing what you say it's doing with other audio programs, I would look into your Windows control panels, going to sound devices and see if there are any default settings for those stupid onboard sound cards, which might be causing some kind of digital fade inns and outs? I mean you are speaking about the wonder of windows aren't you? You are also speaking about a computer motherboard based soundcard and not even a separate actual soundcard plugged into one of the PCI slots, I might assume? I would perhaps try another inexpensive soundcard? You could disable the onboard soundcard through the bios. I think you would then find that the problem would probably disappear? You might also want to check the sound card's mixer program that might include "special-effects" or " sound enhancements"?
Now what really scares me is this....."Don't worry, were professionals." which I find underneath your question window. That, could be a real problem for your company???
