I've searched with little success. I just finished the grunt work on an Avatar Vintage Premium-inspired 2x12 cabinet. I have a rear mounted 1x12 and a front mounted 1x12, both are satisfactory.
Do any of you have (well based) strong opinions on this? I'm mounting WarehouseSpeakers.com clones of V30 and ClassicLead80s (wired in parallel if you care)
Anyway, I'm just looking for the YAY and NAY of the two.
note: I already mounted the baffle board, so pounding T-Nuts is most likely not going to happen.

Yeah. Thats 3/4" plywood for the baffle. Didn't have 1/2" around, and I wanted to get it finished. Front mounted them today. I also figured that front mounted gives move volume to the cabinet, but that may be a trivial amount. I plan on making the back 2/3 or fully closed with the addition of a center piece (on the back of the amp, not a center piece like mom would make for the table at Easter...... :lol: )
Just finished playing thru it and my 5w amp has never sounded so loud.

Nice looking cabinet, BTW! I have built a few myself, and have MANY hours with a speaker CAD program... so I feel qualified to answer... FWIW.

You can "press" t-nuts with a pair of channel-locks or use the bolts to pull 'em down.

The speakers combined are 140w, so the 5w really isn't pushing them. They are very efficient (sensitivity is 100) so they crank. I'm going to be running an 18w head thru them in the longer run. But the modded ValveJR is there for now.
As for the beam blockers- yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The V30 can be a bit harsh- esp in a smaller basement where it will be when not out on a stage.
My biggest concern is covering it. I've got no experience with doing that. I'll do some practice runs and get it worked out. There's some good tutorials out there.
And yes, for those who noticed, I didn't put in holes for the handles. Not sure what I'm doing there, yet. Probably a single steel one one top (not a strap, a bar-type one). Thoughts? I didn't think a strap would be strong enough.

Most speakers can be used either front mounted (if I understand what you are asking) or rear mounted just by using different mounting hardware. For most speaker applications mounting the speaker with the speaker either flush mounded to the front baffle board or mounted on front of the baffle board gives the rest results. The thickness of the baffle board can do some strange things to the sound coming off the cone if you rear mount them especially if you are using a 1" piece of plywood for the baffle board.
