3" are too small. All your mixes will have bass problems.

Isn't it a problem that it sounds too good ? too much bass sound it's not as clear as the genelec ... are you sure the the JBL 5'' are better ?

You want to get something that can easily display all frequencies "accurately". A 3" speaker probably couldn't "accurately" display frequencies lower than 500Hz give or take

There honestly are very few decent monitors at this price point. I would advise to do your homework. Study and compare the spec sheets for sure. You may want to look for something in the 8 inch range instead. I would stay away from the 3" monitor at all cost.

8" may be too big for his room or application.

^^^ yes you are correct. I guess I should have said 5 to 6 inch monitors instead of 8's. I am curious what the size is of his actual control room as many that have project studios do not have the correct monitors in them to begin with. I would however advice the OP to save up for some good monitors and stay out of this price range all together IMHO.

So many people go low budget on monitors and at the end of the day, all they are doing is struggling to find the mix. So many people don't get this and just continue snailing along to a point of making bad decisions including adding more gear because they think its the gear. You also can develop very bad habits when you can't hear the frequencies accurately.

That being said, the OP is posting in the Home Recording Forum so he isn't planning on spending thousand here. I don't know what to recommend for monitors in your price point, but, I definitely wouldn't be using 3" stuff. You are going to be adding way too much bass in you mix. If your speakers can't produce the lows, you are going to be adding way to much in your mix to compensate what you can't hear from those 3". When your songs are played on other speaker more accurate than yours, they are going to be bass overload. Why? because the guy that mixed the songs (you) had speakers that sucked. Follow?

Until you have heard the Genelec 6010A dont be so quick to judge them due to speaker size. They are incredible. They are better with a small sub but dont 'need' it produce clear and accurate representations of the material at hand. I would recommend them over many speakers of larger size. I have heard them side by side with many different brands and sizes and you really wont believe how they sound until you actually hear them. In a really small room they are wonderful.

As far as price point, these aint cheap. If you can get the matching sub, do it and never regret it. Again, these are killer monitors.
