How is data for CDdb / freedb uploaded

I know a compatable player like, Ultra Tag Editor 2.2.3, Cdmax 1.7.6
CoolCD Studio 1.4, to name just a few, will be required,
but which of the players is the best and how do you get the info to CDdb or freedb.

I can't find a url and the info on the net seems to be limited or hard to find.
I have never used one of these player or sent in the CD tag info.
I would like to learn how this works.

Any advice would be very helpfull.
