I just found these forums. I'm a 2nd-trip-'round university student studying audio tech at Belmont in Nashville. Whoop-de-doo, right?
In any case, I have a question: Would the pros here say that having experience with video post-prod in addition to audio-only recording experience would make a great difference in hireability? As I understand it from several people, many established studios are moving in the "Audio for Post" direction. Would you agree?

I'm about as determined make it in this business as it's possible for a person to be, and am more than willing to widen my range of experience if it will make a difference. I'm very glad I found this forum, and will probably have enough questions for you and others as time goes on to make you all sick of me. Here's to hoping that time is long in coming.

I have my own studio. I try to be prepared to do anything that falls in my lap. There is money in audio post for video too, so I do it. I learned it because I worked for a time at a studio that did a lot of it. If the time expenditure to learn it isn't too much, it certainly can't hurt to have the experience. Maybe you could bring that skill with you to a facility that doesn't have it. It's also good to have the skill in case you get a chance to do a job as a freelancer. Most audio guys that are employed by a studio do a lot of freelance to fill in the blanks in their income.

We moved into that direction about two years ago. The more you can offer a potential employer the better your chances are to get hired. My mentor, who runs the most successful studio in this area, has recently opened his own video post operation and it is doing very well. The person who is doing the video is also a good audio engineer and has done some mastering as well. I would go for it as long as it fits into your overall goals for your education.
