laptop audio/midi interface (PMCIA or USB?)

i am triggering theater sound effects and musical interludes during live performances and I would like to bring my laptop into the picture. I want to trigger the fx via midi keyboard and have a better quality audio OUT than the stock sound card

would you use a PMCIA card type interface or a USB type?
the smaller the device the better.

I came across the M-audio ozone which is a usb midi keyboard/audio interface. looks like it has all the answers in one box (+ a wall wart)
