I used the 2496 for a couple of years, it was a workhorse and always treated me well. I upgraded to an RME Multiface when I needed additional I/O channels. The quality of the converters in the RME is much better, as I discovered by listening to things recorded or mixed through the 2496, much better stereo imaging, tighter low end. I don't know off the bat what the price difference is between the 1010 and Multiface, but the converter quality difference would be worth it. BTW, keep in mind that the ultra high sampling rates really put a load on your system, better have plenty of horsepower if you have high track counts.
