The new Mackie boards with the new Pre's.. are they something that gets a great sound or are they overrated?
I am looking into picking up a board now to setup in a small studio that will work with local bands.
Will they do a good job untill higher priced racked gets purchased down the line?
I hear they are very nice...

The 8-bus mackie boards have not changed in many years. The summing of the channels is much worse the mic preamps in my book. I could live with the preamps if i had too, but trying to mix more than 16-channels at a time just gets....Uuuggggly!
Time will tell if the new onyx boards and mic pre's are much of an improvement. I didn't think the XDR was a big deal or any better than the VLZ to brag about.
I don't think they are out yet... (the onyx, right?)
