great drummer in an incredible room......

Room mic's compressed with a great analog compressor..

You'll also need a great engineer...someone who knows what they're doing.

let's assume I have that, except the compressor part....any suggestions?

If by "except the compressor part", you mean you don't have a compressor, then get one. If you mean you don't have a great analog compressor, use a crappy one. Sometimes that's better than a "good" one. I've had plenty of fun with Allison Research Gain Brains on drum rooms. They certainly don't fall under most people's general definition of a great compressor.

i posted this on another forum and got some useful answers. AKA I found an MXR dual limiter that will suit my needs well.
