I can't find much on the Focusrite Green preamp. I was told that it wasn't that great, and was remade as the Platinum stuff, but that may be hearsay. Anybody?

Both the Green and Platinum series from Focusrite uses integrated circuits instead of discreet. In theory they should sound as good but in use I have found them to not have the same type of quality as the more expensive all discreet, class A, transformer based products. In spite of the fact the even some of the higher end gear like some Focusrite and API etc use OP AMPs, IMO they still sound a lot better than the integrated chip types. Even when Fender re-created their classic point to point circuitry on a PCB, many users report hearing a difference between them, with most preferring the sound of the older style "point to point" construction.
I think it is the same thing with mic pres and compressors.

I had a Green channel strip called the voicebox. It was cool as an intermediate channel strip but the compressor either crapped out or sucked, we could never tell. I think the presonus sounds better for the money, I have a/b'ed them.
