hi, I'm a newbe to daw's and have been asked to help setup our church's sys to record CD's, because i know a little about computers.
so i have been researching what i can, when i have time, on the net about recording and finding this awsome site i need to ask you all for advice.
we have a 800mhz 740mb superdrive imac g4, panther os, 20 trak sound board, 20 mics for instruments and singers, couple tape decks.
we want to make quality CD's with the imac we were thinkin motu
some already want the 828mkII i think the 896HD would be better for long term as we learn to make CD's what would you all suggest?
and what program- dp?
also i would like to record in real-time to a CD-rw unit [not harddrive] seperate of the daw as a stand alone. what choices are there? and what do i need to make it work?
and would any of you know of a up to date sound enginering manual on CD so i can run it on my ipod if not, a book?
thanks a lot guys i have been researching but i dont have much time to search and all of this seems overwhelming without help!

motu 828 will give you 8 analog inputs that you can use from the outputs of your mixer plus 2 more inputs that already have pres- now there is another 8 inputs via adat but you will need some pres that have a lightpipe out for that- 2 more inputs via spdif round out the 20 inputs in the 828mkii
with your current G4 you should be able to run at least 20 tracks in DP with some plugs- then you can burn a mix from DP into your internal CD burner, no problem there-
tascam makes a stand alone cd unit- I forget exacltly but I think its the cdr 700 (or something like that) they are about $500 new and do a real good job (I used to own one but I left it behind when I sold my studio)
If you get DP it comes with an extensive manual- there are also video tutorials available to get you started- check on http://www.sweetwater.com for that

the 828mkII is better in long term i think! because you have only 2 pres you'll need the other pres so you can go better with that one instead of the 896HD!
but depends on the goals on the recording and what you'll be recording!
of course budget is important so everyone can help you!
