The system I’ve been using for the last 3 years is a Toshiba laptop running Nuendo with a RME Hammerfall 8in/8out audio interface. (with a pci card to connect to laptop) and a Midiman 4x4 midi interface. I have had no problems with this system… But now I am upgrading to a new dualcore desktop PC.

Since my audio & midi interface were both bought in 2003, I’m wondering what is available to upgrade to now. I am looking for more audio inputs in my new system (preamps not important) also it would be nice to combine midi & audio to one interface… but I need 4 in and 4 out with the midi… my new system will have both firewire & usb so that’s not a factor in my decision.

Should I just keep the Hammerfall and get an ADAT lightpipe with more ¼ inch audio inputs? Or are there much better products on the market these days?
