Anybody tried the new 8030, 8040 or 8050 Genelecs yet ? I think I'm gonna get a pair of 8040's and my expectations are high but I have not heard them yet. If anyone of you have, please let me know what your first impressions were.
I´ll answer my own question here.. just came back from a genelec-8000-demo arranged by Genelec at one of the publicservice radios big and nice studios. It consisted of a short overview of the technical innovations of the 8000-series and then of listening. They flipped between the 8030, 8040, 8050 models and a pair of 1030 for comparison. It started out as a nice "eyeopener" when they played music through them, like "oh, this sounds really nice" and when flipped from the small 8030 through 8040 and 8050 it felt pretty much the same, only a bit deeper low-end for the bigger models. It was not until they flipped to the 1030 when the reaction was a bit more like "what´s wrong now??". The new 8000 felt a lot more natural, wide and deep and very balanced throughout the register. The 1030 sounded quite crappy in comparison.. This was only listening to music, and in a very good room, but I really think Genelec has created a winner.
