patchbay fidelity... a weak link?

after twisting and contorting my spine into all sorts of positions rewiring hookups behind my rack, I think it's time to invest in a patchbay.

I'm looking at either a normalled or at least half-normalled bay, but I was just curious as to what the plusses of the expensive bays over the cheaper ones are...

given that it is passive gear, I can't imagine there'd be any added noise...

given that the trip through the patchbay is a short one, there shouldn't even be much potential for signal loss.

well, once again, considering 48-point normalled or half-normed, preferably balanced connections.

Any thoughts?

thanks in advance
