Hey all,
Trying to get a handle on exactly how I want to set up the input for my new adventure.
Either;
1. A pre to the Alesis ADAT HD24(haven't purchased it yet and other sug welcome). To me that wld be very clean. Later, I cld copy to a computer.
or
2. Buy a recording sys like the Korg 32 HD Recorder or the Akai DPS24MKII 24-Track Digital Recorder. Later, i cld copy to a computer.
This option has routing and mixing capabilites.
or
3. Buy a Mackie worksurface, a good interface to the computer(RME firewire or MOTU USB etc) and route that to the computer.
I guess all those options wld require buying some sw and thats a learning curve to.
Wld record voice, guitar(both acoustic and elec), bass, midi drums and maybe some synth later.
History;
Recorded some of the 1st digital stuff in early 80's with Sony 501 PCM and 3/4" tape. Really sounded good then. Was 16bit tho. Designed a studio at that time using RTA etc etc etc...
Equip: Have the: mics, just got a Grace 101, the instruments and material.
Have a fast pc but may go to the Apple G5.
Want to decide which option I aught to start with. On the verge of just buying the Akai. Not much info from users on that machine tho. On the OH I want something that will last yrs down the road and be expandable.
Any ideas or comments welcome. Especially on better choices for gear and
clean expandable signal chain.
Regards..

I would go with #3 on your list. It's the one that's the most expandable and you can upgrade each different piece at any given time. JMHO
