From digi's website:

Analog Outputs — 2:
Maximum Output: 3.5 VRMS (balanced signal), or +4.2 dBu
Balanced/unbalanced connections supported

Digital I/O:
S/PDIF I/O (24-bit)
RCA jacks

This means, you have, at the most, 4 outputs. All M-Box users I know off, mix inside the DAW. But if it is critical to use some outboard gear, you could find some gear with S/Pdif conections and hook up that way.
I'd recommend you move the files to a external harddrive and take it to a PT studio.

thanks i have met a great engineer with lovely outboard but he doesnt have protools so what can i do...could i not hire a protools interface that lets me come out into his board? is this possible from the laptop i have or would i have to load it onto another computer?

By outboard gear, do you mean analog or digital?
As I said, if it is critical to go outboard, it can't be done with M-Box, unless you're talking about just few channels to sweeten something, one or two channels at a time. But if you're doing a fullblown mixdown you have to, at least, have a 001 system, with 16 ch. out. What kind of Pro Tools rig does the engineer have?
If he wants the work, he should be able to provide you with an external harddrive, to move the files on to and load them up into his rig.

golli thanks for the reply ..the engineer works freelance but has offered to mix the stuff down at his set up at home which is all analog gear (api chanel strips ,la2a,s e.t.c).Ive used the mbox solely as a way to get onto protools .ive bypassed its converters and pre,s by going in spdif using a hedd 192 for conversion and outboard pre,s hence the need to mix down outside the box,problem is he has no interface for protools so from what you are saying i have to get hold of at least a digi 001 ,is that the only solution? Sorry Julian, I may have jumped the gun by asuming the engineer had a big PT rig.
I think I see better where you're coming from.
You have gone the extra mile by getting better micpre/conversion, than the M-Box has to offer.
So the 001 way does not look that good anymore unless you have a quality D/A conversion.
People ceep talking about what a step up from 001, the 002 rigs are, so that is an option.
You can't do a multitrack mixdown with the M-Box.
What is the medium you will be mixing down to? Analog/digital? There are endless ways of doing this.
But you still have to find a Pro Tools rig, with multitrack out option. And since you went to the trouble of using better conversion...........well the better rig you can find/get, the better.
Again I hope you understand some of this ramble.

Then use the 8ch. on the (001,002 whatever) on the less important channels.

golli if i wanted to keep the same kind of conversion quality as the hedd ,what would i need to do ....is the digi 001/002 a real step down in quality ,i need something that can accept firewire if i am to go straight out of my laptop .By the way thanks for your help

As I said before, (although I dont own a 002 system) people keep talking about what a step up the 002 is, conversion wise. Good news the 002/002r are firewire connected.
And to have 8 more channels out (16 total) you could use the Alesis AI-3 unit(Kurt Foster does). That way you have 16 channels to send to the analog desk.
If you need more than 16 ch. out, I think you'll have no other choise but to find a HD or Mix+ systems. I know that there must be other alternatives, so I hope that the experts here can weigh in. I'm a beginner, myself. :w:
