I'm recording soon classical singer with piano in the church.
Have two cardioids (RODE NT5) and two omnis (Gefell M270)
I was thinking to do it with just a couple of microphones, but since yesterday I know that the pianist will play some solo pieces also, so my question is: what would be your approach to set up the mics?
I'm familiar with stereo techniques for both of types of the mics, so my question goes more about using both pairs together.
I was thinking about using one couple of mics for piano as spot and another as a main pair for both together using spots only during piano solo - recording would be done in four channels (2 stereo).
I just don't have an idea which type should I use where - omnis as main and cardios on piano or opposite? How should I pan them? Could you help? Also some ideas about the placement of mics and musicians would be great. Venue is a church.
