What is your opinion? could the list be culled a bit based on what you know of any of these books?
thanks!

I bought a bunch of books that wound up being pretty crappy when I started. I would encourage you to work the Web for a month or two and do some experimenting. THEN you will be able to pick a book that answers the specific questions you have.
Articles like this:

are found all over the net.
Do a google search on:
How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?
and you will find a great deal of very helpful information from a guy named Harvey Gerst.... Buy about 200 sheets of paper and some toner and just print that baby out.
Books are good, but I found that the ones I chose up front did not help me as much as the ones I got after I had been messing around for a few months.
Hope this helps.

While this book is primarily about mastering, much of the content is applicable to recording in general, such as analog and digital levels, compression, limiting and expansion, normalisation etc etc. You won't be the same again after reading this book.
