The converters in the 01V96 are reasonably good but the 2i4 converters are better. The only audio routes out of the original 01V96 are ADAT lightpipes (up to 8 channels in the base unit, going to 24 channels with the ADAT expansion card), digital S/PDIF (2 channels), or else balanced analog levels (up to 6 channels easily, 8 at a pinch). The newer 01V96i model has the ability to send 16 channels digitally to the PC down the USB interface, but I'm assuming you have access to the original model of the 01V96. Don't be tempted to use the other (analog) mixer that you could not remember the model number of.

Since the Focusrite 2i4 only gives you two channels in to the computer, you don't have a lot of choice. For 1 or 2 microphones at a time, use them directly into the 2i2. For more than that (e.g. when miking up a drum kit), you would have to take all the mics into the 01V96 and make a real-time 2-track mix. You then feed the 2-track output into the computer via the Focusrite. This is not an optimal signal route as it involves A-D and D-A conversions in the mixer then another A-D conversion in the 2i2.

thanks i dont have many experience record, i just wonder if the preamps are better on the Yamaha 01v96, and yes is the older version mixing board not the new one, I think i just going to use the focusrite direct with the mics,
My other problem is that the room has no acoustic treatment, but is a large room, i'm thinking on record bass, guitarrs, and i will try record some samples from the drum, the vocals it will be on a profecional studio,i will record some thinks on 27 of dezember and post on this forum. to see if or if it's worth wasting time on record on that room.
