Hi all, I'm right in the process of trying to decide which gear to buy.
Today I have a Chineese mic (á la U87), a ART Tube MP, the Terratec EWS88MT (24 bit) and a fast AMD DAW.
I can do really good recordings, but since I want to upgrade the quality of my recordings I'm thinking of buying a new preamp - and perhaps also an analog compressor.
I have the FMR RNP (and perhaps the RNC as well) in mind.
My only concern is that my mic doesn't have a lo cut switch - AND neither has the RNP.
So, if I get the RNC, will I gain or loose in quality by doing the following recording chain?:
Mic - RNP(+RNC Insert) - DAW.
My worry here is that by not having any lo cut, the Compressor perhaps will not work as good as I would like (it's not a Multi comp)- after all that is just what I want (in the analog domain).
The other option would be only to get the RNP and don't care about the RNC and do the lo cut and compression in the DAW - either at recording or later at the mix stage.
All you gurus, please help me out.

Don't worry about the lo cut. Go ahead aand get the RNP and RNC.
Don't worry about the lo cut. Go ahead aand get the RNP and RNC. Then get your self a Shure SM7...it has a lo cut, is cheaper than a condenser of equal value..can be screamed into in front of the monitors so you don't have to use headphones on and thus will get way better vocals (pitch and attitude wise).
